Note | Togean Islands National Park is a national park in the Togean Islands located in Tomini Bay, Central Sulawesi which was inaugurated in 2004. Togean Islands National Park is an archipelago located within the transition zone of Wallace and Weber lines. The 1998 Conservation International Indonesia (CII) Marine Assessment Program (MRAP) survey conducted by Conservation International Indonesia (CII) in 1998 in the Togean and Banggai Islands indicates that the Togean islands are one of the most important coral reef ecosystems of the coral triangle covering Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Japan and Australia. Coral reefs in the Togean Islands are rich in marine biodiversity with 4 types of coral reefs: fringing reef, barrier reef, patch reef, and atoll. Formed by volcanic activity, the island is covered by lush and lush vegetation, surrounded by coral reef formations. Rocks and beaches provide a place for some marine animals to live and breed, such as the green turtles. |
