Topology&Geology |
In the canyon of the mountains (2.800mdpl) there is a dead crater due to the eruption of Mount Rinjani which (estimated to occur in Plistocene times <1.8 million years ago) formed a vast lake (1,100hA) with beautiful scenery. The lake is called Lake Segara Anak, from the Sasak language, which means the Small Sea. The water depth of the lake is estimated to be about 160m – 230m, the water temperature of the lake varies from side one, to the other side. The water of the lake there is a very strong sulfur smell that looks like a very dangerous moffet, but some are smelling like mountain water. In the middle of Segara Anak lake appears a new mountain called Mount Baru Jari. Mount Baru Jari is believed to increase in every year. |
