Identification | Overall the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park includes the formation of tropical rainforests of the mountains with three major forest associations: 1. association puspa, 2. association puspa-jamuju as well 3. canteen forest association. However, in addition to the three forest associations, there are several other local forest associations. When viewed from the types of trees that dominate at each altitude, it can be grouped into zones as follows: 1. ZONA SUB MONTANA (800-1,400 meters) is characterized by three canopy layers dominated by rasamala (altingia excelsa) whose trees can reach 60 meters high and Castanopsis aegntea, Antidesma tetrandum and litsea Sp. And the bushes (Ardisia fulginosa and Dichera febrifuga). In addition, many types of plants, epiphytes and mosses, among them can be found begonia, ferns, orchids and red moss (Sphagnum gedeanum). One that is easily recognizable is the kind of fern (Asplenium nidus) that can reach up to 2 meters in diameter. 2. MONTANA ZONE (1,400-2,400 meters): It has several easily recognizable species: puspa (scima wallichii), jamuju (podocarpus imbricatus), and kijebung (polyosma illifocia). 3. SUB ALPIN ZONE (above 2,400 meters): characterized by canteen dominance (Vaccinium varingiaefolium) and even a single vegetation in the crater area. Other plants contained in this zone is an edelwish flower (anaphalis javanica) which by nature lovers is called a perennial flower because the flowers separti never wilt. Based on the results of a survey conducted in 1990, it was reported that the diversity of plant species in the Park area, the number decreased with the higher places from the sea surface. In Sub Montana zone there are 249 types of flora, Montana zone there are 185 species and in Sub Alpine zone there are only 36 types. more search required …? |
